Claims Process Overview

In our experience, most homeowner’s insurance companies cover the cost of biohazard remediation involving suicide, homicide, and unattended deaths that occur at the insured property. If you have insurance and would like to file a claim for any of our services, BioteamLV will help you manage and navigate the entire insurance claims process:

  • We will assist you with calling the homeowner’s insurance company to start the claim.
  • We work directly with the insurance company on all steps of the claim to ensure the work is covered by the insurance policy.
  • We advocate for you, the client, and do not affiliate with any insurance companies. This allows us to act in the best interest of our clients without any conflicts of interest.
  • We document the entire cleanup process from beginning to end. This includes bacteria and germ testing, pictures of all phases of the work, documentation of all items disposed of due to impact, etc.
  • Our claims specialists work with you to ensure all needs are met including assisting with personal property damage and rebuild of biohazard remediation.

Some insurance companies require prior approval before we start the decontamination process. If this is the case, a Senior Technician from BioteamLV will go to your property to assess the impact. We will implement measures to slow down the decomposition process and assist with killing bacteria and odor. We can also assist in retrieving vital documents or other items from inside of the insured property when necessary.

Biohazard Cleanup & Service Timeline

Due to the nature of some of our services, you may be unable to stay in your home overnight or for multiple days. In these instances, BioteamLV will provide you with a hotel for the duration of our biohazard work, at no cost to you. As each situation is different, we cannot guarantee a timeline from start to finish. Most clean-up work can be finished within a few days, but the insurance claim can stretch out over weeks. No matter how long it takes, we will be by your side every step of the way.

How BioteamLV Can Help You

Traumatic events are already difficult enough for everyone involved without having to add the burden of cleaning and dealing with insurance.  Our team performs thorough testing before and after cleaning, retrieves critical documents, and helps you manage the entire insurance claims process from beginning to end.

Bacteria & Germ Testing

On an average day, if a person sees something that looks clean, they assume it is clean. However, we know that a visual inspection is only the beginning. Our technicians at BioteamLV perform ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) tests at the beginning and end of our cleanup service. The ATP test allows us to measure the presence of actively growing microorganisms (bacteria). This helps us assess the impact of viable bacteria and organic debris to the property.

Personal Property List

Any porous or semi-porous items that have come into contact with bodily fluids will need to be properly treated and, most of the time, will need to be disposed of at an approved biohazardous waste treatment facility. This document is supported by photographs to show proof of loss of the items. This is especially important if you need to show proof of loss of personal property to your insurance company. Some of the things your insurance company may replace or reimburse you.

Document Retrieval

Paper is highly porous. If it has been directly impacted with blood or other potentially infectious materials, it must be transported to a medical waste facility for destruction. If we discover that any important documents have been damaged, the senior technician will discuss with you the procedures that need to be taken in order to salvage as much information from the documents as possible.

Post-Remediation Evaluation

We hold ourselves to the highest standards and upon request will provide a post-remediation certification to you, property management, or your insurance company.  We want to provide you with peace of mind that the property is safe to return to once we have completed our final evaluation.
